    THE CONTROVERSY OVER THE PROPOSED MALAYASIA FEDERATION...STATESMEN FROM THE PHILIPPINES, INDONESIA AND MALAYA MET IN MANILA THE CAPITAL OF THE PHILIPPINES ON SATURDAY.AND AT THE END OF A DAY OF MEETINGS, PRESIDENT MACAPAGAL OF THE PHILIPPINES CALLED FOR A SUMMIT CONFERENCE OF THE LEADERS OF THE THREE COUNTRIES TO SEEK A SOLUTION TO THEIR DIFFERENCES.

    PRESIDENT MACAPAGAL HAD MET DR.SUDBANDRIO, INDONESIA'S FOREIGN MINISTER, AND TUN ABDUL RAZAK, THE MALAYAN DEFENCE MINISTER DURING THE 19TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR ASIA AND THE FAR EAST (ESCAFE) WHICH OPENED IN MANILA ON MARCH 5TH.SOME 400 DELEGATES AND OBSERVERS FROM 40 COUNTRIES AND 50 U.N.AGENCIES AND ORGANIZATION ARE ATTENDING THE 14-DAY CONFERENCE.

    AT THE END OF HIS SATURDAY MEETING, PRESIDENT MACAPAGAL URGED THAT THE MALAYASIA PLAN BE ABANDONED IN FAVOUR OF HIS OWN EARLIER SUGGESTION FOR A PAN-MALAYAN CONFEDERATION WHICH WOULD EMBRACE THE PHILIPPINES AND INDONESIA AS WELL.

    IT WAS REPORTED FROM KUALA LUMPUR YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) THAT THE MALAYAN GOVERNMENT IS SEARCHING FOR A FORMULA TO LESSEN INDONESIAN AND FILIPINO OBJECTIONS TO MALAYASIA.ACCORDING TO MALAYAN GOVERNMENT SOURCES THERE HAD BEEN SOME LESSENING IN TENSION OVER THE PAST WEEK DESPITE THE CONTINUATION OF "VERBAL WARFARE" BETWEEN KUALA LUMPUR AND DJAKARTA, THE INDONESIAN CAPITAL.
