Later, the Mexican President met European Economic Community Commission President Francois-Xavier Ortoli for a first round of talks. He was later due to meet the full 13-men EEC Commission.
SYNOPSIS: President Luis Echeverria Alvarez of Mexico arrived in Brussels on Friday on the latest stage of his world tour. King Baudouin and other members of the Belgian royal family led the welcome for the visiting head of state as he flew in from London.
The President's first duty on a busy schedule was to inspect the guard of honour. Later, he was due to be King Baudouin's guest of honour at a gala dinner. During the four-day visit, the President was to spend the weekend seeing as much as possible of the counter, including a trip to the port city of Antwerp. It's the first world tour of such scope ever undertaken by a Mexican President and it is aimed at boosting Mexico's image as spokesman for Third World Countries.
At the Residence Berlaimont, President Echeverria met M. Francois-Xavier Ortoli, who is President of the Commission for the European Economic Community, Discussions with the full thirteen-man commission were to follow. Political talks for President Echeveria were also scheduled to include meetings with Belgian Government ministers before he flew on to Paris on the next stage of his world tour.
