Manchester City, producing text book football tactics, ended
hopes of retaining the F.A. Cup this season with a three nil victory at Stanford Bridge in London.

Chelsea attacked strongly in the first half, but the calm City defence was in little trouble. Peter Osgood, playing his last match before beginning an eight week suspension, was prominent, but could no find the net.

In the second half City took a tight rein on the match with two goals within three minutes. Chelsea defence was caught wrong footed on the slippery surface on both occasions and has no answer to the constant pressure from the three man City forward line spearheaded by Colin Bell. The former England forward scored two goals with Bowyer chipping in 15 minutes from time to seal Chelsea's fate.

City now go on to the Fifth round of the competition.
