Background: Achimota school in Ghana is celebrating its 40th Founders Day anniversary. A service was held in the school chapel on Sunday in memory of the three men who first established the school and on Saturday students staged a demonstration of traditional drumming and dancing.
The guest speaker was Mr. Daniel Chapman Nyaho, member of the Political Committee of the N.L.C. and a former headmaster of the school. He paid tribute to the founders of the school, staff and students through whose efforts the school had progressed steadily through the years.
Mr. Chapman Nyaho said the staff of the school had never regarded it as an ivory tower. He said one of the aims of the education offered at Achimota was to break down social barriers.
The headmaster of the school, Mr. Alan Rudwick said that Achimota had been in the forefront of education in the country. He added that by following in the footsteps of its founders the school would live up to its ideals.
