After one of the most exciting finals in the history of the competition, Capt. P. dIInzeo of Italy, riding "Uruguay" won the King George V Gold Cup at the Royal International Horse Show on Wednesday, July 24.
When the 35 competitors had finished the preliminary ride-off, the finalists counted for English rider, four Italians and one Belgian.
Included among the British finalists were Colonel Harry Llwellyn, Alan Oliver and Ted Williams - the three top male riders in the country.
Representing Italy were the d'IInzeo brothers, Italy's top horsemen and winners of many major competitions.
Rider after rider come out of the arena with four faults, until Capt. P.d'IInzeo completed a clear round to win the tournament.
Won last year by the German world champion, Tiederman, the King George V Gold Cup is the major prize of the entire show and was presented to the winner by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
