Background: Curling.... and the United States are the new world champions. In the final of this year's world championships in Winnipeg, Canada, on Sunday (2 April) they took on Norway, and won the coveted Air Canada Silver Broom with an exciting 6-4 victory. It was the fourth time the United States had taken the title, their previous successes being in 1965, 1974 and 1976.
SYNOPSIS: The United States, in action here, had reached the final with a narrow 6-5 semi-final success over Sweden, and the final was just as close... 6-4 to the United States and the pressure was on.
The Silver Broom Trophy was the prize they were chasing. In the semi-finals Norway bad upset Canada 6-2, and against the United States they showed the same determination.
For the spectators there was plenty to shout about .... The Norwegians never eased up, throwing with great accuracy.
