    King Hussein of Jordan and President Hafez Al-Assad of Syria held discussions on the crisis in Lebanon in the Syrian capital, Damascus on Friday (26 March).

    A Presidential source quoted by Reuters said the talks between the two leaders were part of regular consultations between the two countries, but the Lebanon situation was believed to have dominated their talks.

    King Hussein went to Damascus after he had summoned his ambassador in Beirut, Walid Salah, to Amman to report on the situation. The Jordanian monarch was accompanied by his Premier Zeid Al-Rifai and Mr. Salah.

    Syria has been playing a major role in efforts to resolve the Lebanese conflict.

    The two leaders also reviewed King Hussein's visit to the Far East, and discussed the integration of their countries. A Presidential press statement said they shared identical views on all subjects discussed.

    SYNOPSIS: King Hussein of Jordan flew into the Syrian capital of Damascus on Friday and was greeted by President Hafez Al-Assad. Reuters quoted a Presidential source as saying the visit was part of regular consultations between the two leaders.

    However, the crisis in Lebanon is believed to have dominated the discussions of the Jordanian monarch and his host. King Hussein arrived in Damascus after he had summoned his ambassador to Beirut, Wakid Salah, to Amman to report on the situation in Lebanon.

    King Hussein was accompanied by Mr. Salah and his Premier Zeid Al-Rifai on the visit to Syria. President Assad has been one of the main people involved in trying to achieve a political solution to the Lebanese conflict.

    The two leaders talked for about three hours. Although the Lebanon situation dominated the talks, they also reviewed King Hussein's visit to the Far East, and discussed the integration of the two countries.

    A Presidential press statement issued later said the two had shared identical views on all the subjects they discussed.
