  • Description

Airline traffic in the world is expected to soar to over 300 million passengers in 1968.

Yet, it was just forty years ago, October 28, 1927, that Pan Am began to carry the U.S. flag across the oceans. In those days, it was an adventure to fly the Fokker F7 90 miles to Havana.

1935, the China Clipper pioneered scheduled service across the Atlantic Ocean in 1939. The aircraft, a Boeing 314.

The Jets changes everything in 1958 when flight became a reality for the average man. But Pan Am is marking its 40th birthday with giant stride into the future
The Superjet, 747, in service in 1969 will make travel available to more people through greater payload and lower operating costs...and soon, The Concorde, man's first supersonic airliner...scheduled for service in 1971...by 1975, a mighty boost of power with America's first supersonic transport. And beyond, perhaps space travel, all within the lifespan of many now alive.
