  • Description

PEOPLE LIVING IN PANG AMPAT -- THE OLDEST TRADING VILLAGE SOUTH OF SARAWAK, ABOUT THREE MILES FROM THE INDONESIAN BORDER -- HAVE EVERY REASON TO FEEL SECURE.

THE REASON IS THAT MEN OF THE F TROOP OF THE COMMANDO BATTERY, ROYAL ARTILLERY, ARE STAYING IN A WOODEN HOUSE IN THE CENTRE OF THE MAINLY CHINESE VILLAGE, THE TARGET OF ARMED BANDITS BEFORE THE TROOP MOVED IN THREE MONTHS AGO.

VILLAGE WASHERWOMEN OFTEN HELP TO WASH THE TROOP'S UNIFORMS AND OTHER GARMENTS WHEN THEY RETURN FROM PATROLLING THE BORDER AS A MARK OF GRATITUDE.
