    NEW YORK'S STEPHEN HAHN GALLERY TONIGHT (TUESDAY) PAID GBP125,000 STERLING FOR PICASSO'S 1912 CUBIST PAINTING "LA POINTE DE LA CITE". THE PICTURE WAS ONE OF 25 PICASSO'S INCLUDED IN A COLLECTION OF 47 MODERN PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS AND CERAMICS BELONGING TO AMERICAN JAZZ IMPRESSARIO NORMAN GRANZ, AND SOLD AT SOTHEBY'S THE LONDON ART AUCTIONEERS.

    THE PICASSOS, WHICH COVERED THE WHOLE RANGE OF THE ARTIST'S STYLE ROM 1912 TO 1967, ACCOUNTED FOR GBP517,000 STERLING OUT OF A TOTAL OF GBP813,000 STERLING REALISED BY THE COLLECTION.

    ANOTHER HIGH PRICE FOR A PICASSO WAS GBP98,000 STERLING PAID BY THE CONTEMPORARY ART ESTABLISHMENT OF SWITZERLAND FOR "MA JOLIE" PAINTED IN 1914.

    THE GRANZ SALE - THE FIRST EVER TO BE TELEVISED LIVE AND IN COLOUR IN BRITAIN - WAS ONLY PART OF A FOUR-SESSION SALE OF 400 IMPRESSIONIST AND MODERN PICTURES, SCULPTURES AND DRAWINGS BELONGING TO VARIOUS OWNERS.

    THE FOUR-PART SALE IS THE LARGEST OF ITS KIND TO TAKE PLACE AT SOTHEBY'S. THERE ARE TWO FOLLOW-UP SALES TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) AND ONE ON THURSDAY.
