Visnews filmed Dec 8 the opening of the All-Africa Conference in Accra, Ghana, at which Dr. Nkrumah, Prime Minister of Ghana, supported the use of "every form of non-violent action" to bring about the total liberation of Africa from imperialism and colonialism.

The conference is the biggest by Africans in Africa. In the words of Dr. Nkrumah it marked the beginning of an epoch. "My pride overflows at the sight of so large a number of African comrades in arms who, imbued with the fervent desire to see Africa free, unfettered and united, have gathered for the first time in the history of our continent."
200 delegates are there from 25 countries. They meet under the theme: "Hands off Africa."
Observers from Britain, West Germany, the Soviet Union and the United States are at the conference. Greeting Dr. Nkrumah was the British Governor-General, Lord Listowal.

Among the messages of greetings read was one from Soviet Prime Minister Nikita Khruschev. The greetings underlined the importance the Soviet Union placed on the conference. The conference, he said, was proof of the growing solidarity of the peoples of the African continent in their struggle against colonialism.

Next day a shock was in store for the observers: Cried chief FLN delegate - "In this our struggle to liberate Africa, should we exclude violence?" Delegates thundered: "No." The FLN delegate was Dr. F. Omar. His theme was Africans had a right to take by force what belonged to them. This came in sharp contrast to Nkrumah's no-violence plea.
