Globe-trotting President Soekarno of Indonesia recently started a "goodwill tour" that will take him to no less than 17 countries. He was greeted by a 21-gun salute April 16 when he flew into Bangkok, Thailand - the first visit on his itinerary.
A large welcoming party at the airport was headed by King Phumiphol, and included the Prime Minister, Mr Thanarat, military officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and heads of United Nations organizations in the capital.
During a busy 5-day visit the Indonesian President will be the guest of the King at the Royal Palace. A cruise in the famous Royal Barge is included in the programme.
Earlier, at Djakarta Airport Indonesia, crowds carried banners supporting the Indonesian claim for West Guinea as President Soekarno inspected a large parade before leaving for his world trip.
President Soekarno will visit: America, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil, Ecuador, Panama, Bolivia, Ghana, Egypt, Austria, Eire, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Rumania, Yugoslavia and the USSR.
It was explained that the President was not able to include Britain in his world tour because of a "crowded programme".
