The Egyptian Council of Ministers met to discuss latest Middle East developments in Cairo yesterday (Wednesday). It was their first meeting since the expulsion of Soviet military experts and the merger of Egypt with Libya.
The meeting coincided with reports of an exchange of goodwill messages between President Anwar Sadat in Cairo and President Nixon in Washington. Though publication of the exchange had been delayed for a fortnight, political commentators regarded it as a possible first indication of a new relationship between Egypt and the United States.
Besides chairing yesterday's council meeting, Prime Minister Aziz Sidky also met the leader of a visiting Bangladesh delegation, Mr. Iqbal Attar, an assistant to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Sheikh Mujib sent a message saying he hoped to visit Egypt himself. So far, Cairo has not recognised the newly independent state of Bangladesh.
