    INTRODUCTION: Talks took place in New Delhi on Monday (11 April) between Indian trade officials and a visiting trade delegation from Pakistan.

    SYNOPSIS: The meeting was at the Indian Commerce Ministry in Delhi. If follows the visit earlier this month of a high-level official delegation from Pakistan, sent by Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The delegation was headed by a Pakistan Foreign Ministry official. The visit was seen as a sign of Pakistan's keenness to resume talks on the normalisation of relations between the two countries.

    The visiting trade delegation was led by Pakistan Commerce Secretary Mr.E.A. Naik.

    His opposite number was Indian Commerce Secretary, Mr. P.C. Alexander. India and Pakistan agreed in May last year that private sector trading between the two countries should be allowed to go ahead, from July.
