Background: Veteran Australian jockey George Moore, whose first riding season in Britain has been an unqualified success, has been reported as saying he would return to Australia next year because of a vicious campaign against him by a criminal element.

The spiteful threats and personal attacks upon Moore and his family have shocked the racing world. British jockeys and trainers say this type of incident has not occurred in Britain for well over 20 years.

Moore's home in Chelsea, London, was broken into last weekend. No theft occurred, but the persons responsible damaged furniture and slashed the clothing of Mrs. Iris Moore and the couple's 11-year-old daughter Michelle. Earlier, the jockeys car had been daubed with paint.

George Moore replaced British champion jockey Lester Piggott as first jockey to the powerful Noel Murless stable at Newmarket this season, and it was generally anticipated that the association would be renewed next year. The combination has been successful in three of the British classics, including the Derby win on Royal Palace.

Since the recent incident, Moore has been with his family in France where his 15-year-old son Gary had his first ride this week. Today (Wednesday) Moore was reluctant to become involved with newsmen and photographers during a race meeting at Fontainbleu.
