  • Description

THE RHODESIAN PARLIAMENT RESUMED YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) FOR A SESSION LASTING THREE DAYS.

AMONG THE EARLY MAJOR DECISIONS TAKEN WAS ONE TO EXTEND THE PRESENT STATE OF EMERGENCY IN THE COUNTRY FOR THREE MONTHS.

THE ILLEGAL REGIME'S SPOKESMAN FOR LAW AND ORDER, MR LARDNER-BURKE TOLD THE PARLIAMENT THAT THE MOST SERIOUS THREAT FACING RHODESIA WAS THE FURTHER ACTION BRITAIN MIGHT TAKE TO BRING THE COUNTRY TO ITS KNEES.

HE SAID FURTHER BRITISH ACTION MIGHT BE INSTITUTED IN VIEW OF THE FACT THAT ECONOMIC SANCTIONS AND THE OIL EMBARGO WERE UNLIKELY TO DELIVER THE PREDICTED COUP-DE-GRACE IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.

THE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RHODESIA WAS FIRST DECLARED ON NOVEMBER THE FIFTH LAST YEAR, A WEEK BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT MADE ITS ILLEGAL DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE. IT WAS EXTENDED FOR THREE MONTHS AT THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY.

THE RHODESIAN PARLIAMENT ADJOURNED IN MID-MARCH.
