    MEREDITH ARRIVED AT THE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT AND WAS TAKEN UNDER HEAVY POLICE GUARD TO A NEW CONFERENCE AT A NEGRO MASONIC HALL. LATER, MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND PERSONS ATTENDED THE RALLY AND CONTRIBUTED TWO DOLLARS EACH TO THE FUND... BEGUN UNDER MEREDITH'S NAME FOR OTHER NEGRO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.

    MEANWHILE, SCORES OF YOUNG NEGROES WERE STILL IMPRISONED IN TWO LARGE BUILDING AT JACKSON, THE CAPITAL OF MISSISSIPPI. THEY WERE AMONG SEVERAL HUNDRED NEGRO SCHOOL CHILDREN ARRESTED FRIDAY (31 MAY) IN A RACIAL DEMONSTRATION.

    JACKSON'S MAYOR THOMPSON WARNED THAT THE STATE'S JAILS COULD HOLD TEN-THOUSAND DEMONSTRATORS.
