TRANSCRIPT: COMMENTATOR: "The left-handed Tony Roche had the advantage of tricky wins in the third set and he took the set 6-3... Roche then went to a commanding 5-2 lead in the fourth set, and with his service to follow seemed set to end the match there. But Stockton produced great fighting tennis. That was the first point of the eighth game of the fourth set. Roche taking the point. But watch the fight back here by Dick Stockton... 15-all it was... It went to thirty all and then 30-40. Dick Stockton with a point to break to 5-3... and he broke... Stockton then saved three match points against his own service to remain in the match 4-5. This is how he held service... tremendous tennis. The Australian however, made no mistake with his next service game, winning it to love.
Match point...the match, all over in four sets. Tony Roche capping an outstanding week's tennis, unseeded himself and beating half the seeded players to claim his fourth New South Wales title. There are the scores, and Tony Roche receiving the winner's trophy and the cheque for 13,500 dollars."
