A two-headed baby boy was born in a hospital near Karachi on Tuesday 16 November. The freak child survived for about 36 hours before dying of respiratory failure.
Visnews has just received this rare film of a medical condition which is itself very uncommon, though not unique. The film shows the child alive and apparently not in great discomfort at about 24 hours.
Although pictures of human abnormalities are inevitably disturbing, the scenes in this film are not unduly gruesome, and we think they are unlikely to cause distress to adult audiences.
SYNOPSIS: At Baqai Hospital, West Pakistan, a two-headed baby was born alive recently and lived for nearly two days. The bab??? a boy, weighed 9 1/2 pounds (4.3 Kg.). After 24 hours the baby was still breathing strongly and had been fad on powdered milk five times through both its mouths. Later the child became feverish.
The mother, aged 35, was warned of the child's condition before it was born by Caesarian section, and agreed to be sterilised. Doctors at first considered operating on the baby, but discovered that several internal organs were also duplicated. One expert said the child had two lives fused into one and an operation could not succeed. The baby later became unable to breathe and died after 36 hours.
