  • Description

French police intensified the hunt for plastic bomb carriers in Paris, May 15, in a bid to halt terrorism by French right-wing extremists opposed to General de Gaulle's plan for an independent Algeria. Talks between Algerian nationalists and de Gaulle's officials are due to open at Evian near the Swiss frontier, May 20.

As the date approaches, French terrorist bombs exploded in Nice on the French Riviera injuring 4 fellow Frenchmen outside the local Communist newspaper offices, and in Paris injuring two persons, near the home of a Gaullist member of parliament.

The Paris measures brought in 3,000 men to night duty to stem the terrorist attacks. Two hundred and fifty control points were set up in the capital to search pedestrians and motorists. About 60 police cars were on day and night patrol. Result: an undisclosed number of arrests and weapons seized.
