Background: One of four commandos killed during the Israeli attack on the Palestinian camp of Rashidiyeh, Lebanon, this week was buried in Beirut on Tuesday (July 8).

Israeli warplanes and gunboats launched the dawn attacks on Rashidiyeh, near Tyre, and other targets in the area following a guerrilla bomb blast in Jerusalem three day earlier.

A total of 11 people were reported killed during the Israeli attacks, and another 15 wounded. Palestinian commandos claimed that the Israelis lost a Phantom jet and suffered naval casualties. The dead included a woman at the Rashidiyeh Camp. Palestinians said the four commandos, including the one buried on Tuesday, died while attempting to defend the camp against the attacks.

Rashidiyeh houses about 12,000 refugees. Eye-witnesses said it was attacked almost continuously during a three hour period.
