Background: The new Ambassadors of Mauritania, Malta and Finland presented their credentials to Ivorian President Felix Houphouet-Boigny at a special ceremony in Abidjan on Wednesday (10 May).
The Mauritanian Ambassador, Sidna Ould Cheik Bouya, also represents his country in Dahomey, Upper Volta, Niger and Togo. the ambassador it resident in Abidjan. During the ceremony, he met the Ivorian President and spoke briefly.
The Maltese Ambassador is Edourt Lobkowicz. He too, met the President before presenting his credentials. He's currently living in Paris.
Finland is being represented in Abidjan by Kaarle Ensio Ilmari Helenamieni. As with the two men who'd preceded him, he met President Houphouet-Boigny and spoke to the Ivorian leader.
Each of the ambassadors stressed the importance of close cooperation and understanding between their countries and the Ivory Coast. And in reply, the President assured them of the Ivory Coast's close and full cooperation in assisting the ambassadors in their work. He too, emphasised the significance of contact and understanding on the international level.
A number of Ivorian ministers were present for the ceremony, among them Foreign Minister Arsene Assouan-Usher.
SYNOPSIS: This Ivorian Government building was the scene of an important ceremony on Wednesday in Abidjan. And to start it off was the new Ambassador From Mauritania, Sidna Ould Cheik Bouya. First of all, he met the Ivory Coast's President, Felix Houphouet-Boigny. The Ambassador was there to present his credentials to the Ivorian leader, but before the presentation he addressed the President and other ministers present. He also represents Mauritania in Dahomey, Upper Volta, Niger and Togo.
Then, it was the turn of Malta's new Ambassador, Edourt Lobkowicz. He's currently living in Paris and went to Abidjan for Wednesday's ceremony.
He also spoke, stressing the importance of close cooperation and understanding between his country and the Ivory Coast. The he too, presented his credentials.
Finland was next, with Ambassador Kaarle Ensio Ilmari Helenamieni. As with the other men, he first met the Ivorian President.
Many Ivorian officials were there, including Foreign Minister Arsene Assouan-Usher. In his address, the Finnish representative echoed the words of the ambassadors who'd preceded him in the ceremony. And later in reply, the President assured them of the Ivory Coast's complete cooperation on all levels.
