    Background: CAMERAMEN OF THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH INTERNATIONAL NEWSFILM AGENCY HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN WINNING AWARDS IN THE 1961 COMPETITION FOR THE BEST BRITISH TELEVISION NEWSFILM. IT IS THE SECOND YEAR THAT THE "ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA" HAVE MADE SUCH AWARDS.

    AT THE SAVOY HOTEL, LONDON, DECEMBER 13, THE BRITANNICA AWARDS WERE PRESENTED BY MR IAN MACLEOD, LEADER OF THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. MR KENNETH DICK, MANAGING EDITOR OF BCINA, RECEIVED THE SECOND PRIZE IN THE HARD NEWS SILENT CATEGORY ON BEHALF OF CAMERAMAN A.J. OXLEY FOR OUR PRODUCTION NO. 2667/61 - "HAVANA STORE FIRE"
    JOINT FIRST AWARDS IN THE TEAM CATEGORY WERE WON BY LOVAT CAVE-CHINN AND BILL MCCONVILLE FOR OUR PRODUCTION NO. 6751/ - "ANTI-NUCLEAR RALLY IN LONDON."
    ALSO PRESENT AT THE PRESENTATION CEREMONY FROM BCINA WERE MR A. H. WHYTE, NEWS EDITOR; AND MR. L. MURRAY, TECHNICAL MANAGER, ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR HOME ASSIGNMENTS.

    THE 1961 COMPETITION WAS JUDGED IN FIVE CATEGORIES: HARD NEWS (SILENT), HARD NEWS (SOUND), FEATURE NEWS, SPORT AND TEAM. THE AWARDS WERE OPEN TO STAFF AND FREELANCE CAMERAMEN FROM THE UK, BRITISH COMMONWEALTH, AND THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA AND IRELAND.
