    A PARADE IN PARIS OF 3,000 FRENCH SOLDIERS AND CONTINGENTS FROM 10 OF FRANCE'S WORLD WAR ONE ALLIES COMMEMORATED TODAY (MONDAY) THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE 1918 ARMISTICE. PRESIDENT CHARLES DE GAULLE, WHO REVIEWED THE MARCH-PAST, HAD ASKED FOR SPECIAL EFFORTS TO MAKE THE HALF-CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS, WHICH BEGAN YESTERDAY (SUNDAY), PARTICULARLY MEMORABLE.

    LEADING THE PARADE WERE FRENCH SOLDIERS IN UNIFORMS OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR. THEY WERE FOLLOWED BY THE OVERSEAS CONTINGENTS, LED BY REGIMENTAL BANDS. AMONG THEM ERE SEVERAL FROM THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH - THE AUSTRALIANS AND NEW ZEALANDERS, MARCHING AS A SINGLE ANZAC REGIMENT, THE CANADIANS AND THE BRITISH.

    THE 210-MAN BRITISH CONTINGENT WAS MADE UP OF MEN FROM THE QUEENS, ROYAL SCOTS, ROYAL WELCH FUSILIERS AND THE ROYAL IRISH RANGERS. THEIR MUSIC WAS PROVIDED BY THE BAND OF THE SCOTS GUARDS.

    OTHER CONTINGENTS CAME FROM BELGIUM, WHO IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED THE FRENCH, YUGOSLAVIA, ITALY AND THE UNITED STATES. THE CONTINGENTS MARCHED IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THEY ENTERED THE WAR.

    OTHER WORLD WAR ONE ALLIES NOT REPRESENTED WERE THE SOVIET UNION, JAPAN, RUMANIA AND PORTUGAL.

    THE ROUTE OF THE MARCH WENT ALONG THE COURS DE VINCENNES TO THE PLACE DE LA NATION THROUGH THE POORER EASTERN RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS OF PARIS. IT WAS CHOSEN TO EMPHASISE THE PART PLAYED BY ALL SECTORS OF THE FRENCH NATION - INCLUDING CIVILIANS - IN THE WAR.

    WITH GENERAL DE GAULLE ON THE REVIEWING STAND WERE PRIME MINISTER COUVE DE MURVILLE AND MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNMENT. ALSO WITH THE PRESIDENT WERE PRESIDENT FRANCOIS TOMBALBAYE OF CHAD, DRESSED IN WHICH NATIONAL COSTUME, AND PRESIDENT ALBERT-BERNARD BONGO OF GABON.

    LATER, THE GENERAL REVIEWED EIGHT ARMOURED AND MOTORISE REGIMENTS AND SAN A FLY-PAST OF FLIGHT OF JETS AND A SQUADRON OF HELICOPTERS.
