Mana AL Oteiba arrived in Dacca on Thursday (19 June) at the head of a 12 man delegation to discuss a possible supply of oil at concessional rates.

Mr. Oteiba said his talks would centre on bilateral economic co-operation. He did not give further details but it is thought the U.A.E. might offer substantial assistance to Bangladesh for building some medium sized industries. The U.A.E. is keen to offer assistance for a machine tool factory and a diesel plant on the outskirts of Dacca.

Closer relations between Bangladesh and the U.A.E. were established last December following a visit to Abu Dhabi by the president, Sheik Mujibur Rahman. During his stay he was given 50 million dollars assistance to help overcome Bangladesh's difficult economic situation.
