    Mr. Diallo Telli, Secretary General of the Organisation of African Unity visited the future site of the All-African Trade Fair in Jamhuri Park near Nairobi yesterday (22 October). He told journalists that economic development is the key to real independence and expressed the hope that the fair will be the start of real and genuine close cooperation between independent African States. Mr. Telli noted that present inter-African trade constituted only seven per cent of the continents's total and hoped that the fair would mark the implementation of the charter of the O.A.U. which called on the people of Africa to pool their economic and human resources for the betterment of their people's lives.

    The fair will be opened by President Jomo Kenyatta next February.

    SYNOPSIS: Secretary General of the Organisation of African Unity, Mr. Diallo Telli toured the future site of the All-Africa Trade Fair in Jamhuri Park near Nairobi on Friday. Mr. Telli was accompanied by an official delegation led by Kenya's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mr. M. Wanjigi.

    Mr. Telli told officials and journalists that economic development is the key to real independence and that the fair marks the start of real and genuine close cooperation between independent African states. He expressed the hope that inter-African trade would be expanded from its present level.

    The fair will bring together next February at least 35 African nations who will have the chance to display their wares. Mr. Telli called the trade fair a milestone in African cooperation and added that it marked a direct implementation of O.A.U. policies. The organisation's charter calls upon the people of Africa to pool their economic resources for the betterment of their people's lives.
