  • Description

HARDY AMIES, DRESS DESIGNER FOR QUEEN ELIZABETH SHOWED HIS SPRING AND SUMMER COLLECTION TODAY (WEDNESDAY) -- AND COMPROMISED BETWEEN MINI-SKIRTS AND MAXI-SKIRTS.

THE ROYAL DRESSMAKER SHOWED TWO DAY-SKIRT LENGTHS; ONE JUST ABOVE THE KNEE, AND THE OTHER THREE INCHES (7.6 CMS) BELOW.

AND HIS ANSWER TO WOMEN WHO ARE WONDERING WHETHER TO DISPLAY PLENTY OF THIGH OR JUST A GLIMPSE OF AN ANKLE NEXT SPRING AND SUMMER: "THERE IS NOW NO LENGTH THAT IS IN ITSELF CORRECT."
MR AMIES SAID HE BELIEVED IN RETAINING DRESSES SHOWING AN UNFITTED WAISTLINE, AND THAT THIS TYPE OF DRESS MUST REMAIN SHORT.

LONGER SKIRTS WERE NOT JUST A MATTER OF LENGTHENING. THE WHOLE OUTFIT, WITH ITS CUT INVOLVING A HIGHER WAISTLINE AND NEW ACCESSORIES, HAD BEEN THOUGHT OUT WITH GREAT CARE.

ALSO ON SHOW IN LONDON TODAY FASHIONS FROM A COUNTRY WHOSE REPUTATION IN THIS FIELD HAS NOT PREVIOUSLY SPREAD ABROAD -- YUGOSLAVIA. ABOUT 150 GARMENTS WERE PUT ON SHOW BY THE BELGRADE AND ZAGREB ECONOMIC CHAMBERS.
