Background: Egypt's Grand Sheikh of Al Azhar, Dr. Abdel Halim Mahmoud, on a tour of India, visited the Indian Prime Minister, Mrs. Gandhi, in New Delhi, on Tuesday (4 November). Dr. Mahmoud is Egypt's foremost Moslem.
The Grand Sheikh is on a nine-day visit to Indian touring important centres of Islamic study. He will return to Cairo on 12 November.
After his talks with Mrs. Gandhi, Dr. Mahmoud visited Delhi's famous Moghul fort, known as "The Red Fort".
He spent some time in the Pearl Mosque inside the fort. The mosque was built by Aurabzeb, the last of the great Moghul rulers.
Later that day the Sheikh called on India's President, Mr. Fakhrud Din Ali Ahmed.
