LONDON WAS THE FOCAL POINT OF FASHION-CONSCIOUS MEN TODAY (WEDNESDAY) WITH THE SHOWING OF HARDY AMIES' 1967 DESIGNS. THE DISPLAY TOOK PLACE AT THE SAVOY HOTEL..
ENGLISH MEN'S FASHIONS LEAD THE WORLD AND HARDY AMIES DESIGNED THIS YEAR'S LONG LEAN LOOK FOR WORLD-WIDE APPEAL. THE OVERALL PICTURE AT TODAY'S DISPLAY WAS A STILL SLIMMER LINE, BUT WITH SHAPING AND FLARE ON JACKETS, TROUSERS, AND COATS.

HARDY AMIES LAUNCHED THE SLIM-CUT SUIT FIVE YEARS AGO AND IT SOON BECAME THE "MAN OF THE WORLD" LOOK IN MEN'S FASHIONS. HE HAS CONTINUED WITH THE LOOK.

NEW JACKET STYLES GAVE A SLIGHTLY "HACKING" LOOK, EMPHASISING THE SLIMNESS OF THE SUIT. DOUBLE BREASTED JACKETS WERE MUCH IN EVIDENCE, AS WERE NARROWER LAPELS, WIDER BUTTON SPACING AND NARROWER TROUSERS.

COATS WERE PARED DOWN, WITH NARROWER SHOULDERS AND EITHER A STRAIGHT OR SLIGHTLY TAPERED CUT. TOWN COATS WERE SLIGHTLY SHAPED.

    CASUAL COATS BECAME SHORTER STILL.

HARDY AMIES CONCENTRATED A WEALTH OF DETAIL IN POCKETS, GIVING THEM PLEATS, BUTTONED FLAPS, PEAKED FLAPS AND VERTICAL FLAPS. ON SLACKS SIDE POCKETS DISAPPEARED AS PART OF THE SLIMMING DOWN PROCESS, AND WERE REPLACED BY FRONT POCKETS.

CLOTHS FORESHADOWED EVEN MORE COLOURFUL DRESSING. SEMI - FORMAL BLAZERS CAME IN CHECKS OR STRIPES OF MUTED RED, BROWN AND BLUE MIXTURES, TO BE WORN WITH PLAIN TROUSERS.

HIS OFTEN-USED TWEEDS ALSO CAME IN MANY COLOURS, AND RAINCOATS, WORN AT THIGH-LENGTH, GAINED HIGHLY COLOURED STRIPES AND COLLARS.

HARDY AMIES' EVENING WEAR REMAINED STRICTLY FORMAL.
