    The 27th Conference of Ministers of Education in French-speaking African countries opened in Lome, capital of Togo, on Thursday (28 February). It was opened by the Togolese Minister for Education, M. Benoit Yaya Malou.

    This is the first time the conference has been held in Togo. There were also delegates from the West Indies, North America and Europe as well as from Africa.

    In his opening speech, M. Malou said that the French-speaking countries formed a chain across the world with a common cultural heritage. M. Malou pointed out three major tasks - teacher-training, new methods in teaching mathematics, and the formation of a body to examine and publicise world educational developments for Africa.

    M. Jacques Limouzy, Secretary of Sate to the French Minister of Education, said that France had completely reformed its secondary education this year and would be publishing the reforms among the French-speaking community.
