Background: Mr Brynmor John, the Under Secretary of State for the Royal Air Force, is to spend four days with Service units in Germany.
His programme starts tomorrow, Tuesday April 23, in Berlin where he will visit men and women of the British Forces and see the Berlin Wall. the following day he will go to the berlin Air Safety Centre, one of the few surviving aspects of the four power organisation being manned by Russians, Americans, French and British Servicemen including an RAF representative. After visiting RAF Gatow he will have an aerial view of the city from a helicopter.
The same evening he flies to RAF Gutersloh and on the Thursday morning will see the Lightnings of the Battle Flight standing at five minutes readiness 305 days of the year, before taking off for Rheindahlen. Here he will be briefed on the roles of RAF Germany and the 2nd Allied Tactical Air Force. Friday he will spend at RAF Bruggen, the Phantom jet base.
