Background: VISNEWS Filmed the Afro-Asian Youth Conference opening in Cairo's University Feb 2. After the conference opening speeches... a parade through the streets at Gazirah. UAR President Nasser stood upon a dais as the polygot flag carrying students marched past.

Delegates to the week long conference numbered 500 and supposedly represented 52 Afro-Asian nations, but several 'delegations' were composed of students of the appropriate nationalities studying in Cairo. When a telegram form Mr. Kruschev, urging the youth of two Continents to "continue their fight against Imperialism", was read by Yussef el Sabai, Conference Secretary General, from all parts of the great university hall cane the cry "Neither East Nor West."
Sponsored by the Asian-African secretariat in Cairo, the conference's aim is to foster solidarity among the youth of Africa and Asia for the "liberation of the two Continents from Imperialism",
A festival staged by about 15,000 youths coincided with the Conference. There were sports events, Nile Paradesm Military training displays, theatrical performances, musical recitals, exhibitions and literary contests 'a la Moscow'.
