Sponsored by the Asian-African secretariat in Cairo, the conference's aim is to foster solidarity among the youth of Africa and Asia for the "liberation of the two Continents from Imperialism",
A festival staged by about 15,000 youths coincided with the Conference. There were sports events, Nile Paradesm Military training displays, theatrical performances, musical recitals, exhibitions and literary contests 'a la Moscow'.
