Leaders of the Organisation of African Unity (O.A.U.) discussed the agendas for the Organisation's coming conferences when they met in Fes, Morocco on Monday (5 March). The O.A.U. celebrates its tenth anniversary in May this year.
The Secretary General of the O.A.U., Mr. Nzo Ekangaki, arrived in Morocco for the talks the previous Friday (March 2). Other high ranking officials of the Organisation had preliminary discussions before the Secretary General arrived. The current Chairman of the O.A.U.'s Council of Ministers, Mr. Baba Hassan of Chad, had been meeting with Morocco's King Hassan, current chairman of the Organisation. He arrived last week.
SYNOPSIS: Planning for the coming conferences of the Organisation of African Unity was under way at Fes in Morocco on Tuesday. King Hassan, current chairman of the OAU hosted the talks with other prominent members of the Organisation. The Secretary General, Nzo Ekangaki, and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Baba Hassan, had arrived in Morocco separately a few days before.
Tuesday's talks were held informally before and during dinner. Other officials of the OAU had been in Morocco for the planning discussions for several days. Chairman Baba Hassan, who is also Foreign Minister of Chad, arrived in Morocco last week.
An important meeting of the Organisation comes in May this year when the OAU celebrates the tenth anniversary of its foundation. By the time the birthday anniversary is celebrated, the OAU will have a multi-national anthem. The Organisation decided this last month. Words in French and English have been written, but the music had not been composed. The talks in Morocco affect the forty-one member countries of the Organisation.
