    Background: The United States, the soviet Union and Britain were among some 50 countries which signed the new international biological weapons convention on Monday. Simultaneous signing ceremonies were held in London, Washington and Moscow.

    In Moscow, the three depository countries were represented by Foreign minister Andrei Gromyko, and Ambassador Jacob Beam and Sir John Killick. In all, 47 countries signed the documents in Moscow, in the presence of Soviet President Nikolai Podgorny.
