    Uganda's Foreign Minister, Mr. Wanume-Kibedi, opened the new Uganda Cheshire Home for paraplegics and disabled persons at Katalemwa, five miles from Kampala, on Wednesday (15th December). The minister was deputising for President Idi Amin. President Amin, in a speech lead at the opening ceremony by Mr. Wanume-Kibedi, expressed his gratitude for the assistance of the Cheshire Foundation of Britain in helping provide for Uganda's disabled. The take of helping them could not, he said, be borne by his Government alone, and hoped that in the future it might be possible to locate similar homes in all parts of the country, and not centred only around the capital.

    SYNOPSIS: At the village of Katalemwa, near Kampala, a new home for paraplegia and disabled people was opened on Wednesday by Uganda's Foreign Minister, Mr. Wanume-Kibedi, who was deputising for President Amin. The establishment of the home was made possible with funds from the Cheshire Foundation of Britain, after which it's named.

    During the opening ceremony Mr. Wanume-Kibedi read a speech from President Amin. In it the President expressed his deep gratitude for the assistance of the Cheshire Foundation, and indicated that the task of helping the disabled could not be borne by the Government alone.

    The usual tape-cutting was next on the agenda.

    President Amin has house that facilities, such as the Cheshire home provides, will become available throughout Uganda.
