Background: World Boxing Association Junior Middle weight champion Oscar Albarado of Los Angeles stopped eighth-ranking challenger Ryu Sorimachi of Japan in the seventh round of their scheduled 15-round title fifth in Tokyo on Tuesday (8 October).
Sorimachi began well in the opening round, scoring from the champion with a combination of fast footwork and quick left jobs to the face.
But from then on, it was texas-born Albarado's fifth. Using hard left hooks and taking full advantage of height and reach superiority, he took the next five rounds while severely mauling the Japanese challenger.
After Sorimachi went down for a mandatory count of eight at the beginning of the seventh round, he was almost helpless. He took punch after punch until referee Dick Young of Los Angeles stepped in to stop the fight.
It was Albarado's 53rd win in 59 bouts. For Sorimachi, it was a second unsuccessful attempt on the title.
