Background: When late Prime Minister Mr. Wasfi Tell came to the office in 1962 he launched campaign to use the students of 1st and 2nd secondary classes energy in either sharing in building projects and participating in civil service or join to the army schools for training on light weapons. In 1972 the Jordanian Government at this time adapted the idea again and they are still working on it up to this year. The volunteer students have to spend three weeks from the summer vacation in building or training on arms.
Three years ago a little change added on Al-Hussein Camps for Work plans by using the students energy in doing some constructions in their schools for adding needed construction for their benefits in their schools and each governorate students participate in projects belonging to their governors.
About 75 students from Southern Districts from Jordan took the responsibility this year to build a unique yard of handball volleyball and basket-ball and building a wall for their football yard. Of course Building Division at Ministry of Eduction put the studies, requirements and costing for the projects The students carried out the building.
The combined yard is 20 x 40 metres square, the foundations were 80 x 50 cms, also the students levelled and paved the land then covered it by cement. The project will cost 3600 Dinars and will be completed within five days.
Mr. Khashoggi's financial sponsorship of the work has arisen because of his interest in his own "commercial ancestors", his concern for Pan-Arab world cooperation in scientific research, and his desire to acquaint foreign students with the life and culture of the modern Middle East. Almost ninety American students have been participants in the work since 1973. The Expedition is under the direction of Dr. Philip C. Hammound, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Utah.
