    The Association of South East Asian Nations, comprising Thailand, Indochina, the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia, has called for an end to the fighting in Indochina and the withdrawal of all foreign forces from the areas of conflict.

    SYNOPSIS: The call come in a statement issued on Tuesday (20 February) in Hong Kong by the Indonesian Foreign Minister Mochtar Kusumaatmadja following consultations with his ASEAN counterparts. (SEQ 1)
    Meanwhile, the Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Hussein Onn, who arrived in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai on Monday (19 February), began three days of talks of the Indochina fighting with his thai counterpart General Kriangsak Chamanand.

    Thai Foreign Minister Upadit Pachariyangkun said a joint statement was expected at the conclusion of the meeting on Wednesday (21 february).

    Informed sources said joint military operations to suppress communist guerillas along the Thai/Malay border would also be discussed.

    Malaysia has already expressed unhappiness over the outbreak of hostilities between china and Vietnam and urged all parties concerned not to take any action that would worsen the situation. (SEQ 3-6)
