  • Description

TWENTY-ONE DUTCH TOURIST DIED AT DINANT IN BELGIUM YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) WHEN THEIR MOTOR COACH PLUNGED INTO THE RIVER MEUSE.

DINANT POLICE SAID LAST NIGHT THAT FROGMEN HAD RECOVERED 19 BODIES FROM THE SUBMERGED VEHICLE WHILE TWO MORE WERE STILL MISSING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RIVER. THREE PEOPLE, INCLUDING THE GUIDE, A WOMAN, ESCAPED THE CRASH.

THE COACH CAME FROM EINDHOVEN, SOUTHERN HOLLAND. IT APPARENTLY RAN OUT OF CONTROL WHILE DESCENDING A STEEP HILL AND TORE ACROSS ANOTHER ROAD BEFORE PLUNGING INTO ABOUT 10 FEET (THREE METRES) OF WATER.

DINANT, A HOLIDAY RESORT IN SOUTHERN BELGIUM, IS STRUNG ALONG THE MEUSE AT THE FOOT OF ALMOST VERTICAL CLIFFS.
