    The Sixth Pan American Games got off to a rousing unofficial start at Cali, Colombia, on thursday (Jul. 29) when the flame from Mexico the last host of the Olympic Games, was carried through the streets of the city to the Pan American Park outside the main stadium for the games on the edge of the city. Thousands lined the streets and some 10,000 at least jammed into and around the stadium to see an athlete run in with the torch and light a flame in the park which will burn until tomorrow when another torch will be lit from this to light the flame in the stadium itself. the first events begin on Saturday. More than 4,000 athletes from 31 American countries are taking part in a total of 17 sports. The US, Canada and Cuba are expected to dominate the games but the other countries all have chances of picking up medals.
