  • Description

The Malacanang Palace in Manila, official residence of the President of the Philippines, has been turned into an emergency hospital for victims of the Luzon flood disaster. But in spite of all the preparations thee are few patients. People are paying little attention to government pleas to guard against cholera and typhoid. Nurses are having to call at houses to persuade parents to have their children injected. Only about 15 patients have so far arrived at the Palace. This is believed to be partly due to the breakdown in communications between Manila and the disaster area, but mainly to the widespread belief that with the flood waters receding, dangers of infection are also over.
