    SOME 5,000 ANTI H-BOMB CAMPAIGNERS CARRIED BANNERS AND FLAGS THROUGH THE STREETS OF TOKYO, JAPAN, AUG 4 TO MARK THE END OF THE CITY'S EIGHTH INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION AGAINST NUCLEAR WEAPONS. AT A MASS RALLY THE DEMONSTRATORS - INCLUDING 60 DELEGATES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES - LISTENED TO ADDRESSES ON THE THEME "PREVENTION OF A NUCLEAR WAR".

    A GROUP OF PEOPLE FROM THE RIGHTIST "JAPAN PATRIOT SOCIETY" ATTEMPTED TO BREAK UP THE MEETING BY THROWING A "BLINDING POWDER", MADE OF PEPPER AND FLOUR, FROM TWO LORRIES. THEY WERE QUICKLY DISPERSED BY POLICE AND SIX YOUTHS WERE ARRESTED.

    AMONG THE DELEGATES TO THE RALLY WERE THIRTY AMERICANS, INCLUDING MEMBERS OF THE "WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL STRIKE FOR PEACE". BRITISH COMMONWEALTH PARTICIPANTS INCLUDED DELEGATES FROM CANADA, NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA. OTHERS WERE FROM THE CHINESE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC, NORTH KOREA AND YUGOSLAVIA.
