Background: 8 nations are represented to-day in the annual international cross-country of Hannut, well-known by all fans of athletism. About 50 athletes represent these 8 nations in this cross-country of more than 11 kilometres, and among them the best crossmen of Belgium together with the stars of England, Spain, France, Holland, Germany, Luxembourg, Morocco. Because of this strong competition, the cross of Hannut is a very hard one and the heavy rains of the last weeks which transformed the parcours in a real mud field is not making it easier for the athletes. And hard was, because it rained all day long and the grounds were exceptionally heavy. The cross itself can be resumed to a long duel between the champion of Morocco Rhadi and the Belgian champion Roelants. Very early these two men detached themselves from the rest of the athletes and they stayed together at the lead during the entire cross, an other Belgian Vande Wattyne following at a short distance in third position. The position would stay that way until the end, but it is only during the last lap, in fact in the last kilometre that Rhadi succeeded in taking a short advance of a few meters on Roelants. The magnificent winner: Rhadi; 2nd Roelants, 3rd Vande Wattyne, 4th, the British North.
