  • Description

A seminar aimed at improving the administration of government-owned companies began in Monrovia, the Liberian capital, on Monday (15 May), and will last for two weeks.

SYNOPSIS: The seminar is at the Institute of Public Administration in Monrovia. There are delegates from the Gambia, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Nigeria as well as from Liberia itself. Many African governments have set up publicity-owned enterprises in the industrial, agricultural and commercial fields, and the seminar for executives of these government companies will be shown ways of improving their leadership and efficiency. One speaker during the seminar's first session was the Liberian Minister for Information, Mr. J. Jenkins Peal.

Discussion will also centre on the socio-economic and political environment of government enterprises, a critical examination of factors affecting the performance of public enterprises, and an analysis of the relationships between public enterprises and government agencies. The delegates will also talk about the management of human resources, and techniques of leadership.
