  • Description

Wales became the world's top darts team with a three two win over Scotland in the final of the first Unicorn World Darts Championships in London on Sunday night (30 March).

Teams from Britain, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, Gibraltar, Lebanon, Malta, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the United States and West Germany took part. Despite the international flavour, many of the competitors were British born players now living overseas.

The final was between Wales and Scotland. The Welsh were represented by two players, one of whom gave up his mining job to take part. Two teams were level at two-all after three singles matches and a double. The game then resorted to singles and the Welsh player Ray Phillips won with a double 12.

All teams started at 601. They could start with any number but had to finish with a double score.
