Background: The Ivory Coast Foreign Minister, M. Arsene Assouan Usher, in making a six-day official visit to the Gabonese Republic (January 17-23).
His visit includes meetings with President Albert Bernard Bongo and Foreign Minister Georges Rawiri. Observers think the growing links between the two countries will mean that an Ivory Coast ambassador will be soon installed in Libreville. The Gabonese Republic already has an ambassador in Abidjan.
SYNOPSIS: The Gabonese Republic is consolidating its friendship with the Ivory Coast. Visiting the Gabonese presidential palace in Libreville this week is M. Arsene Assouan Usher, the Ivory Coast Foreign Minister. He was greeted by President Albert-Bernard Bongo.
They met for talks, and observers believe that the visit will lead to the Ivory Coast sending an ambassador to reside in the Gabonese capital. There is already a Gabonese envoy in the Ivory Coast.
M. Assouan presented the President with gifts from the Ivory Coast. During his six-day visit, the Foreign Minister will also confer with his Gabonese counterpart, as well as touring several sections of the country.
