    THE REMAINS OF MR. ODARQUAYE OBETSEBI-LAMPTEY, FORMERLY A LEADING GHANAIAN LAWYER AND OPPONENT OF DEPOSED PRESIDENT KWANE NKRUMAH, WERE EXHUMED ON SATURDAY AND GIVEN A FULL BURIAL IN ACCRA ON SUNDAY.

    MR. OBETSEBI-LAMPTEY HAD BEEN DETAINED BY THE NKRUMAH REGIME AND DIED WHILE IN DETENTION IN 1963.

    SINCE HE DIED IN JANUARY 1963, MR. OBETSEBI-LAMPTEY'S BODY HAD LAIN IN A GRAVE AT NSAWAM, 20 MILES (32 KMS) NORTH OF ACCRA, NEAR THE PRISON CAMP IN WHICH HE HAD BEEN DETAINED.

    MR. OBETSEBI-LAMPTEY'S RELATIVES HAD PRESSED FOR HIM TO BE RE-BURIED WITH FULL RITES, AND ON SATURDAY THEY ATTENDED THE GRAVESIDE AT NSAWAM WHILE HIS COFFIN WAS EXHUMED.

    THE EMINENT LAWYER'S BODY LAY IN STATE AT THE LEGION HALL IN ACCRA ON SATURDAY NIGHT AND WAS GIVEN A FULL BURIAL SERVICE AT A METHODIST CHURCH IN THE GHANAIAN CAPITAL ON SUNDAY.

    HE WAS BURIED IN ACCRA'S OSU CEMETERY ON SUNDAY, AT A SERVICE ATTENDED BY A CROWD OF HUNDREDS, INCLUDING MANY OF MR. OBETSEBI-LAMPTEY'S COLLEAGUES OF THE GHANA BAR ASSOCIATION AND GHANAIAN LEADERS.

    AT THE GRAVESIDE WAS GHANAIAN CHIEF JUSTICE, MR. JUSTICE AKUFFO-ADDO, AND MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL, INCLUDING MR. J.E.O. NUNOO, COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, AND MR. WILLIAM OFORI-ATTA AND MR. S.D. DOMBO.

    THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE LINED THE THREE-MILE ROUTE THROUGH ACCRA TO SEE MR. OBETSEBI-LAMPTEY'S COFFIN CARRIED SHOULDER-HIGH BY FRIENDS AND RELATIVES, AMONGST WHOM WAS HIS SON. MR. JACOB OBETSEBI-LAMPTEY, OF THE GHANA BROADCASTING CORPORATION.
