Background: A record 106 golfers, including 81 professionals, team off at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi on Thursday for the start of the 4-day international Kanya Open Golf Championship. This was the coventh event of the series and Britain was strongly represented. Dai Rees, former captain of the British Ryder Cup team, partnered former Kenyan Amateur Champion Burhan Marjan. Sean Cannery, the James Bond of film fame, partnered Tony Rice of Zambia during the opening round. Cannery is a keen amateur golfer and played some good shots during the day, however he took 86 shots to complete the par 72 course.
The newly lengthened Muthaiga course was in excellent condition for the start of the Tournament. British player David Jagger broke the course record by carding a record 65 in the first round.
