    TWENTY-FOUR SOUTH VIETNAMESE AND AMERICAN AIR FORCE PLANES YESTERDAY (SUNDAY) BOMBED AN IMPORTANT NORTH VIETNAMESE NAVAL BASE AT TIGERISLAND, ABOUT 20 MILES OFF THE COAST OF VIETNAM.

    THIS WAS REVEALED AT A PRESS CONFERENCE IN SAIGON BY LIEUTENANT NGUYEN NGOC LINH, THE NEW SOUTH VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN.HE WAS OFFICIAL INTERPRETER FOR OUSTED ARMED FORCES CHIEF, MAJOR GENERAL NGUYEN KHANH, WHO IS NOW A ROVING AMBASSADOR.

    HE SAID THE BASE WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED.THE SOUTH VIETNAMESE AIRCRAFT DROPPED 60 TONS OF BOMBS ON THE ONE-MILE SQUARE ISLAND, KNOCKING OUT AUTOMATIC GUN POSITIONS, RADAR INSTALLATIONS, COASTAL DEFENCE AND DESTROYING DEPOTS AND BARRACKS.

    LIEUT.LINH SAID THE VIETNAMESE PLANES WERE LED BY AIR FORCES COMMANDER NGUYEN CAO KY.THE PLANES TOOK OFF FROM DANANG AIR FORCE BASE ALL RETURNED SAFELY TO BASE 50 MINUTES LATER.

    IT WAS THE FIFTH RAID BY VIETNAMESE AND AMERICAN AIR FORCES ON NORTH VIETNAM.THE ATTACK WAS MADE BECAUSE OF CONTINUED IDENTIFICATION AND OTHER ACTS OF AGGRESSION BY THE HANOI GOVERNMENT, SAID LIEUT LINH.
